Our Aviary

We keep and breed a variety of African, Asian, and Australian finches.  These include Lady Gouldians, Blue Capped Cordon Bleus, Gold Breasted waxbills, Lavendars, Owls (Bicheno finch), Orange Cheeked waxbills, Red Crested Finches (from South America), Red Headed Parrot finches, Sea Green Parrot finches, societies, Shaftails, and Swees (Yellow Bellied waxbills).  We are hoping to add Strawberries in the very near future.

Our finches are bred in individual cages or one pair to a large walk-in flight to ensure accuracy in tracking the offspring.  Each cage is lit with a full spectrum light set on a timer to mimic the birds' natural day/night cycle.  Our birds also are trained to use a "Water Buddy" and water dishes are used only for bathing purposes -- for a more hygenic means of providing water to the birds.  Our breeding room is equipped with a Hunter Hepa air filtration system with ionic air purifier for good air quality.  The breeding room also has two large windows that face north and south, so the birds receive a good source of direct sunlight (and moon light).

During non-breeding season, our birds are separated by sex and type and housed in one of our large walk-in flights or a 6' wide x 3' deep x 5' tall aviary.  This helps to ensure that all of our birds get plenty of rest and exercise while minimizing potential aggression.  The flights and aviary are positioned to receive maximum sunlight from the two large windows and are equipped with full spectrum lighting.

All of the offspring our birds produce are NFSS closed banded and color banded for family designation at 7 - 10 days of age.  In addition, we close color band to distinguish mutations from normals.  And, for some types, we use split colored bands to distinguish between males and females.  We are able to provide genetic records for all of the offspring our birds produce.

After several years of trial and error, we have developed our own mix of seed that our birds LOVE!  In addition to seed, our birds have Miracle Meal, Herb Salad, and a mixture of crushed oyster shell, charcoal, powdered kelp, and "63 trace minerals" available to them at all times.  Every day, they are offered fresh eggfood, vegetables, and egg shell.  Please see our "Finch Info and Articles" page for our recipes!

The bird care products we sell are those that we use in our avian maintenance and breeding program.  We believe in these products because of the results they have produced in the overall health, vitality and color intensity of our birds.
